CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTANT

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

 

This program will provide the necessary training and skills required to challenge the National Health career Association(NHA)  Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination. This program requires 360 classroom hour (lecture and labs) and 120 hour clinical externship. Students must successfully complete the 360 classroom hour requirement to be eligible to participate in the clinical externship rotation.

What Does a Medical Assistant Do?

Medical assistants complete administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners. Their duties vary with the location, specialty, and size of the practice.

Where does a Medical Assistant Work?

Most medical assistants have postsecondary education such as a certificate. Medical assistants held about 560,800 jobs in 2012. Most of these assistants work in physicians’ offices and other healthcare facilities.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Age 18 (by completion of training) or older
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. (Alien ID-If applicable)
  • Valid Identification (passport, driver’s license or state/federal issued ID)
  • Social Security Card
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to pass criminal background check (provided by school) Students should      have no felony convictions of any kind and must not have any drug-related      or Pharmacy related convictions, including misdemeanours
  • Valid CPR (school provides service for an additional fee)
  • Drug Test 
  • HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
  • Immunization Record
  • TB Test, School will administer the skin test for a fee. (PPD skin test or a      negative chest X-ray no older than a year is required)
  • Hepatitis B immunization (if declined, it must be waived in writing, form is      available in our school administration office) 
  • 2 Covid Vaccines (Moderna or Pfizer) or 1 Covid Vaccine (Johnson+Johnson)

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

People who are interested in becoming a Medical Assistant are required to take CPR for Medical Professionals and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training prior to starting their clinical rotation. CPR/AED Training is offered by Fast Track for an additional fee. This fee is not included in the tuition.

JOB OUTLOOK

Employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 29 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. The growth of the aging baby-boom population will continue to spur demand for preventive medical services, which are often provided by physicians. As their practices expand, physicians will hire more assistants to perform routine administrative and clinical duties, allowing the physicians to see more patients.

NATIONAL CERTIFICATION

Our Medical Assistant program is approved for national certification testing. After completing the Medical Assistant training program the graduate will have the option (for an additional fee) to apply and test for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) National Exam. The national exam is administered on-site at Fast Track Health Care Education.

A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required to take the national exam.

National Certification is voluntary. It represents not only compliance with established medical standards, but also highlights the health care professional’s commitment to quality and professionalism. Having national certification demonstrates to the healthcare industry that the individual is proficient in his/her specific area of study. National certification is a competency standard and has proven to be a valuable asset in securing employment as well as advancement on any career ladder. Having National Healthcareer Association (NHA) National Certification gives the health care professional the competitive edge he/she needs in the job search market. To employers it separates the serious from the non-serious, and may well be the deciding factor in obtaining a job or promotion.
